Although the shadows provide the major sense of depth the receding side of the left pavilion and the repeating gate silhouette in the distance are necessary to the effect. I had just commented on someone elses work who used two-point perspective and it looked weird because thats not the way our eyes are used to. LINEAR PERSPECTIVE We see parallel lines as converging in the distance although in reality they do not. In one-point perspective only one dimension of a three dimensional subject seems to recede to VPs one-point one vanishing point.
