Black Exterior Wall Sheathing
Blownonfuel Posted in Construction Techniques on August 9 2008 0722am Well it seems I just may go ahead and sheath my walls before I put them up so I need to find out how to go about selecting the thickness of sheathing and whether to use OSB or Ply.
Black exterior wall sheathing. The roof sheathing must be at least 38-in. Exterior wall sheathing is either structural or non-structural. Probably instlalled mid 70s.
Exterior wall sheathing strengthens the wall system provides a nailing base for the siding and gives a layer of protection against outside elements. The are some areas where the board has been cut away to make access for plumbing wiring etc. The house was built in 1946 has no insulation in the walls and oddly enough to me has drywall with plaster on top of the drywall. It is also highly vapor-permeable enhancing drying to the exterior should the wall get wet.

Structural wall sheathing also ties framing studs together makes the walls resistant to twisting and bending and provides a surface for application of materials like siding.
