Exterior Door Not Closing Properly
Before trying to trim the door open it and examine the hinges.
Exterior door not closing properly. As the weather changes it is not unusual for doors to stick or to not close. If the latch is sticking in the door you can try one of three fixes. On the latch side of the jamb a strike plate is positioned over a hole in the jamb.
Now try closing the door and give it a push. The hinges are incorrectly positioned which means the door is straining to re-open 2. Gaskets are the material filling between two or more surfaces.
Loosen the screws on the doorknob. Tightening the hinges is good though so no harm done. A hinge can often work loose binding the door against the frame.
If it is too loose the door will rattle. The most important part is to be sure you have a fine toothed sharp blade. First if the door is not closing properly or the door latching mechanism does not.
The door frame changes shape and size as a result of humidity and ground movement. Warping usually occurs when the door has taken in too much moisture. You can also tape the bottom of the circular saw to protect the door when cutting.
The doors latch bolt engages a hole in the strike plate to latch the door. Just picked up a used 2014 Dutch Star 3736 the entry door needs a ferocious slamming to close the door no amount of adjusting the striker will help it only goes up down. Sometimes there may be something preventing the door from closing which is not immediately obvious to the naked eye.
