Teak Oil Exterior Wood
With added UV filters for protection against fading from sunlight Teak Oil is suitable for interior and exterior use.
Teak oil exterior wood. This would need regular maintenance due to the fact that there is no UV Protection in this product. Teak oil Danish oil etc - will last for a bit longer than varnish provided you give it a regular top up. Only applying oil to teak wood will not prevent mildew from forming and it will not stop the wood from fading either.
Teak Oil is the best oil to use on outdoor teak wood furniture. When applied to wood the excess oil should be removed before the teak oil has dried with additional coats added every 24 hours. It penetrates the wood and when dry it produces a hard finish compared to linseed oil and different oil finishes which looks tacky when they are exposed to heat.
The oil is generally a mixture of linseed oil varnish mineral spirits and sometimes Tung oil. In both cases the wood is used outdoors and experiences lots of contact with the elementswater wind sunshine etc. I have new exterior doors arriving in the next two weeks.
It has better penetration and contains UV protectants. These are generally thinner than other exterior wood oils making them more suitable for exotic hard woods that have a tight grain. Ideal for rough sawn and smooth timber or over similar oil stains.
However after a few weeks when the oil begins to evaporate the wood will start to become dull. You may have heard that all you have to do is oil teak furniture every year to keep it looking fresh. Apply at least two thin coats of Teak Oil.
Teak oil plays a prominent role as a finish for outdoor furniture. However even the best teak oil can actually lead to damage of the exterior of the wood. I plan on using a conditioner first a clear stain and then use the spar or teak oil.
