White oak for exterior use. We use an exterior penetrating linseed oil finish rather than surface coatings such as varnishes or polyurethanes which are described in the Wood Handbook as not desirable because they can chip peel or crack and also be toxic. We would not recommend AW OAK for external use because it is quite a dry timber and if not acclimatized properly can have a tendency to swell due to its low initial moisture content. This usually requires scuff sanding the piece and applying more finish but if you let it go too long it can require a stripping and refinish.
